Hey There! I'm Mirla . I'm the Head Cake Designer and pastry Chef at It Started With a Cupcake. I make cakes . But not your average cake. I make from scratch, over the top, luxury custom cakes. The kind of cakes that are the centerpiece of your event. One of a Kind and Delicious!
We use Fresh Fruit, Plugra butter, Pure Vanilla Extract and, Belgian Chocolate. Because we believe sweets should taste as good as they look.
My sister and I started off selling Cupcakes and Macarons at a farmers market a little over 10 years ago and we've been on this sweet journey ever since.
In that time I got a Culinary degree from HCCC and A Cake Design Degree from Bonnie Gordon College, Toronto, CA. I combine my Fine Arts background, my Culinary training and my foodie soul to create yummy pastries at the shop.
When I'm not at the bakery, you can probably find me binge watching K-dramas and J dramas, researching my next foodie destination or reading !
Hi! I'm Shakira, I'm the business manager and Social Media director. I handle all the business and administrative stuff. I love numbers and staying on top of the latest cake trends.
After graduating with an MBA in Analytics and Business Management from Montclair University, I joined forces with Mirla to open the shop.
Together we work hard to make sure our customers have the sweetest experience at our bakery. Our long term goal is to take over the world. LOL
When I'm not at the bakery, you can usually find me singing at open mics, watching Sci-fi/ Horror movies, or daydreaming about my next travel adventure!
